HOME BIBLE SCHOOL

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven."
-Matthew 19:14 (ESV)

Welcome

welcome

Welcome to Home Bible School! Our mission is to share resources and ideas with other families to encourage them as they seek to dive into God's Word with their family. When my son asked me how Noah knew about God, I realized the most likely answer, apart from divine inspiration, was that his family had taught him--there was no VBS, Bible class at school, etc. Reflecting on this reality inspired me to develop a culture in our home that regularly and openly discusses God's word and love and promises together. I wanted God to be a natural part of our daily conversations with each other. But the question was: How? As I dug for resources, I uncovered a wealth of beautiful, inspiring resources, that have really captivated our family and drawn us deeper into relationship with God. (Read more of our story here.) This site exists to share those resources that I found.

Our goal is to enable each family to build out their own, fully-customized, easily implemented curriculum. All of the resources are organized into six Collections (below). Click on each of the collections below to see material lists, complete with reviews of each item, as well as links to other useful resources. For ideas and suggested structures of how to implement this content into our busy daily lives, scroll down to the How To Section and check out our Curricula.

How To

how to use these resources

Our primary focus is to collect, review, and suggest resources for you. There are many beautiful ways to incorporate these resources, and our vision is that each family will develop their own approach that is specific to their styles and needs. However, if you are looking for inspiration or curricula, we offer suggestions based on what we have found to work for us.

At it's simplest you could pick one item and find a way to incorporate it into your daily or weekly schedule:

Are you looking for a family read aloud that will inspire reflection on God? Check out our Story Time Collection for book ideas ranging from board books to chapter books.

In love with music? See our Music Collection for links to a monthly hymn reflection or suggestions of song titles to add to a kid friendly worship music play list for in-town car rides.

Want some organized after school crafts? Reflect on Bible stories with low impact crafts from our Craft Corner. I love how the crafts inspire reflection on the Bible stories! What did the Tower of Babel look like?? Is Mt. Sinai a real mountain??

Longing to be in the Word more? Consider reading a story from a storybook Bible each week and discussing it as a family, maybe over a meal. For our list of favorite storybook bibles and resources to aid in discussions of Bible stories, see our Scripture Collection. Or for ideas of how to tackle memorizing scripture as a family, checkout our Scripture Memory Collection.

Wanting to learn more theology or Bible history as a family? See our Theology and History Collection for links to family-friendly catechisms, catechism songs, bible history books, and more!

A more involved approach could be to incorporate an element of each category each week--this is what we do, but in a simple way for now with young kids (see the curricula page for details on how we do this). As they get older and our content gets more advanced, I envision integrating the components together more thoroughly for thematic studies (subscribe for updates on more curricula and materials releases). Or you could pick a single book and work your way through one book at a time, reading, singing, and praying every night. There's so many wonderful options. And each family will find their own sweet way that works best for their dynamic.

If you want more concrete ideas of how to implement these resources, see the curricula page for descriptions of specific curricula that we've implemented or found. These range from content schedules to topical collections of resources. Hopefully they can act as a source of inspiration as you plan how to use these resources in your life.
