Theology & History

The vision for this collection is to enrich children's understanding of who God is and what he is doing by focusing specifically on discussing theological doctrine and history (beyond just reading Bible stories). This can be done in a number of ways. We have included a book list here of our favorite reference books (think timelines, maps & encyclopedias), as well as devotionals we have found useful. Below the book list is a list of a number of other resources including a catechism, podcast, workbooks, card sets, etc. Note that books, such as biographies, from the Storytime list could also be useful here. And, our Music collection includes catechism questions and answers put to song.

Resources

Beyond books, we have found some other neat resources for teaching theology to kids.

  • New City Catechism - an app and a book set, this is a recently written catechism (by a team that included Tim Keller) that presents the historic Christian faith in a framework that works well for modern culture. The app has a child mode that streamlines the phrasing and includes each of the answers put to music.

  • Tiny Theologians - a husband-wife team who create original content to teach solid, orthodox theology and church history to young kids. They have workbooks, cards, a podcast, puzzles and such.

  • OneStory - free resources for kids based on the work of BibleProject. Content includes bible studies, word studies, a storymap, etc.

More books to be investigated...

Disclaimer: I have not yet personally looked at these, so I do not know if I would recommend them or not.
