The Jesus Storybook Bible
Sally Lloyd-Jones
Illustrated by
Jago

This has become a classic. It was our first storybook Bible and will always be special to me for that. The stories are told in a playful and yet sincere and reverent way that makes them simple and easy to listen to. Each story is short enough to be a fairly quick read. The illustrations are colorful and engaging. The people do not look realistic, which works well for the style of writing.
Synopsis
This storybook Bible follows the sequence of stories in the Bible, starting with Creation, and ending with Revelation. Each chapter is a discreet, standalone story (the perfect length for a bedtime read), and each story ends by drawing a connection between the story and Jesus--helping even the youngest to really see the story arc in the Bible.
What I Love
Sally Lloyd Jones does an excellent job of highlighting the connection each story makes to Christ. Even as an adult the stories are moving. She has a way of hitting on the deep truth without getting bogged down by the details. But the content is kept appropriate for a young audience. Its bibilically accurate and doesn’t over interpret.
Weaker points
This storybook Bible is not as comprehensive. There are fairly classic stories that are not covered. The stories are short and a bit more abstract. You’re not going to get a lot of historical details. But they’re true to the Bible and highlight the key ideas without being at all preachy.
